Celebrating District 9500 – A Lasting Legacy

On July 1 this year, the two Districts in South Australia (and part NT) amalgamate to become District 9510.
District Governor Jane Owens and a small team has put together a presentation to tell the story of the lasting legacy of which Rotarians in District 9500 can be proud.

Last night our District held its last E-Connections meeting where this story was told.

Past District Governor Peter Schaefer was Emcee, and together with co-host, PDG Marie Dorrington who introduced our Guest Speakers, it was truly a CELEBRATION, with stories about just some of the amazing achievements by Rotarians throughout our District over the years.

DG Jane presented PHFs to three Members of The Rotary Club of Prospect; PDG Doug Layng, PDG Marie Dorrington and District Secretary Lynne Layng. Others from the District who were also presented with PHFs are PDG Peter Schaefer, Dannielle Camporeale, Graham Fussen, Marie-louise Lees, Ian Howlett, Yvette Reade and Colin Davies.

Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Peter Rostron (RC Alice Springs Mbantua) and Marie-louise Lees (RC Gawler).

If you ever doubted that Rotarians do great work in their own communities and around the world, the stories by our Guest Speakers are proof that we live up to our edict “Service Above Self”.

DG Jane was proud to present Rotarian David Cockshell with the prestigious “Service Above Self” Award. David is Chair of Donations in Kind (DIK), an activity of Rotary Australia World Community Service Limited (RAWCS). This recycling and reuse program focuses on health & education and involves the collection, sorting, packing, dispatch and distribution of donated items to countries in need of these goods. Check out one of the most recent and extraordinary Rotary projects lead by David.

District 9500 leaves a truly remarkable Lasting Legacy and one to Celebrate. Thank you to District Governor Jane Owens for bringing these stories to us. Congratulations and thank you for your leadership during a challenging year.
