The Rotary Club of Prospect is thrilled to share that funds raised through the Corolla Capers initiative have enabled the installation of a brand-new Blue Tree in the outback community of Roxby Downs, serving as a powerful visual reminder for mental health awareness.
This project is a perfect example of how local Rotary efforts can touch lives far beyond our immediate neighbourhood.
What is the Blue Tree Project?
For those who may not know, the Blue Tree Project is a vital, Australian-grown mental health awareness movement. It began in Western Australia and has since spread across the nation, and indeed, the world.
The project’s mission is simple but profound: to help break down the stigma that too often surrounds mental health. It does this by giving dead trees, which have often stood for years, a new purpose. By painting them a vibrant and unmissable blue, these trees become beacons of hope and conversation.
Each Blue Tree stands as a visual symbol to spark those difficult conversations and remind everyone that “it’s okay to not be okay.” In regional and remote communities like Roxby Downs, where services can be distant and life’s pressures unique, these visual reminders are incredibly important. They encourage people to check in on their mates, their families, and themselves.
The “Corolla Capers” – Fellowship in Motion
The funds that made this possible were raised through the “Corolla Capers,” an annual event that embodies the Rotary spirit of “Service Above Self” – and proves we can have a lot of fun while doing it!
The Corolla Capers is a joint fellowship and fundraising initiative run by the Rotary Club of Prospect and the Rotary Club of Regency Park. It’s an opportunity for members and friends from both clubs to come together, enjoy driving and discovery, and raise money for important causes. It strengthens the bonds within our Rotary family and channels our collective energy into tangible, positive outcomes.
Connecting Prospect to the Outback
Thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in the Corolla Capers, a donation was made to the Blue Tree Project. We are so pleased that these funds were allocated to establish the new tree in Roxby Downs.
Our club extends a heartfelt thank you to all participants, sponsors, and organisers of the Corolla Capers, and especially to our wonderful partners at the Rotary Club of Regency Park. Your generosity has planted a powerful seed of hope and support in the South Australian outback, one that will stand as a reminder for years to come that no one is alone.
