In March 2026, the Rotary Club of Prospect was pleased to support the installation of a new Peace Pole at Blackfriars Priory School. This recent initiative forms part of our club’s ongoing commitment to fostering goodwill and community connection, particularly among the younger generation in our local area.
For those who may be unfamiliar with the initiative, a Peace Pole is an internationally recognised monument that acts as a silent symbol of hope and unity. Typically, the poles display the universal message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” across their sides in multiple languages.
The Peace Pole movement has a notable history, originating in Japan in 1955 under the guidance of philosopher Masahisa Goi in the aftermath of the Second World War. Since then, it has grown into a global project. Rotary clubs worldwide have been significant champions of this cause, adopting the project to promote international understanding and conflict resolution. Today, there are tens of thousands of Peace Poles planted across the globe in parks, schools, and town squares.
The new installation at Blackfriars Priory School provides students, staff, and visitors with a dedicated space for quiet reflection. By bringing this global symbol to a local educational setting, the club hopes to encourage ongoing conversations around tolerance, respect, and community harmony.
We extend our gratitude to the leadership and school community at Blackfriars Priory School for their collaboration in bringing this meaningful project to life.
