On Friday, 19th December, members of the Rotary Club of Prospect and the Rotary Club of Adelaide joined with the local community for a sombre and meaningful vigil. Gathered around the Peace Pole in the gardens of the office of the Hon Lucy Hood, Member for Adelaide, we stood together to mark the recent tragedy in Bondi, Sydney, which targeted the Jewish community.
The service was a vital opportunity to pause, reflect, and remember the victims and their families. As part of the vigil, attendees were invited to write personal messages of support to the Adelaide Jewish community – a small but powerful gesture of solidarity during this difficult time.
Peace and conflict resolution are cornerstones of the Rotary mission. Events like this remind us that these are not just ideals, but active commitments we must renew daily. While the attack has brought grief to our shores, this gathering demonstrated the strength of our local community. It provided a space for us to support one another through shared sorrow and to reaffirm our unwavering rejection of violence.
In the face of tragedy, we remain a community dedicated to peace, understanding, and mutual support.
